WHAT WORKS? Imagine that your child is sick and needs simple medical attention. Would you utilize the usual, standard and proven remedies to ensure he is comfortable and likely to overcome the illness in the fastest, easiest way? Or, would you attempt some unproven series of techniques in the hope of a better result? Education is going through this phase at this very moment. Speculative and questionable methodology is being applied in our schools in an attempt to raise declining test scores and lower the drop-out rate. What's being overlooked is that large portions of the science of education have become neglected and forgotten. The simple solution is to re-institute the tried and true educational technology developed by the brightest reform educators such as Pestalozzi, Humboldt and Montessori. Where this has been done in some parts of the world such as Switzerland and Finland, they are enjoying rave successes in their school education system; as they should. |
